Audi was part of Auto Union in the 30's, along DKW, Horch and Wanderer.

I think it's fudamentally wrong to use the name Auto Union name considering 6 million people were brutally murdered in Europe while the Auto Union was establishing itself. Think of another name.

This makes absolutely no sense at all.
If you should see a man walking down a crowded street talking aloud to himself, don't run in the opposite direction, but run towards him, because he's a poet. You have nothing to fear from the poet - but the truth.

Plus, I can imagine it just like GM- all the companies are under the GM umbrella, but does GM still make any cars branded as a GM badge?

    Rather pointless, I would imagine.
do you know the name of the company producing Mercedes-Benz cars?
it's Daimler AG...and I don't even remember last time we got a Daimler (from Germany).

Do you not buy Beyer Asprin because the company sold the poison pills used to exterminate Jews? Do you not buy Ford's because Henry Ford was Anti-Semitic? Your argument is weak: A lot of companies get tied up in the wrong side of wars for various reasons. BMW built engines for German planes, yet you have a BMW on your avatar.

What would the badge look like? I guess it would be a bit of a marketing coup if they just used the four rings. People everywhere would gobble them up.
i don't even want to imagine what the badge might look like. i thought that VW/ Audi and Porsche were always sharing their things, so to speak. now their going to become Auto Union?!?!?!?!?!

Not always. They collaborated in a number of projects, but they were separate companies up until now.

VW walked away from the talks. As it stands now, Porsche owns 51% of the Volkswagen Audi Group but the companies will not merge.

Well, is it going to change things much? I mean Porsche still owns VW...

But the situation would have been fundamentally different had the two companies merged. The current situation is far more complex.

It will be more complex yes, but not that different, will it?

Unless the VW law hasn't been abolished yet. Has it?
