Nope there's a fundamental difference.

The R-Class doesn't have any sort of off roading pretensions or off-roading hardware (except for four wheel drive), so it's a better car altogether and probably a better drive.

True, but I'm sure the X6 & ZDX probably offer a pretty smooth ride as well considering their price and target audience.

Why would you want an off roader that can't go off road and it's compromised on the road? It's pointless because it can't do anything right.

Yeah, I've always thought this segment was a little retarded...but with regard to the R, I was really just referring to the AMG as being pointlessly over the top (obviously M-B thought so too.) I get the appeal of the R overall, even if I don't agree with it.

i find Mercedes has too many cars in certain classes altogether. maybe because each of their segments go up against every kind of car out there? i donno...
