    2003 w211 e230

Guys, I'm really stuck. My friend got an exersice to assess the car specified in a thread name. Stupid thing is that I can't think of a W211 with a 230 engine, and Google tells me the same. Can anyone find any proof that such a model existed in 2003? Many thanks in advance.

I couldn't find it either, but I think it could be explained this way:
the 230 moniker was often used for cars that didn't have a 2.3 liters engine in first place, so perhaps in some market the 240 was called 230, as the recent C-Klasse was still referred to as a 230 despite having a 2.5 liter engine, while it was previously used only for the 2.3 kompressor engine.

    makes sense?

    Surely they didn't mean E240? There's no E230 AFAIK.

EDIT Damiano, the 240 had a 2.6 litre V6, the 4 cylinder model was called E200K despite having a 1.8 litre engine actually.

EDIT 2 Or maybe they mixed up the 2 and 3? Meaning E320?

there used to be 230 models with a 2.3 liter engine, and the 2005 C-Klasse had a 2.5 liter, called the 230 though, and so does the 2008 CLC:

Maybe I found it, but it's a 2008 model, still W211 gen though:
    2008 Mercedes-Benz E 230 W 211 technical specifications and data - 4 door 2.5 litre (2496 cc) V6 203.8 PS - Carfolio.com car specifications pages

    EDIT:
    C230 with a naturally aspirated 2.3 engine.

Thanks! Must be that one indeed, although it is a 2008 car still. Maybe they've made this engine after restyling only and it wasn't used in 2003? Russian wikipedia had this 2.5 V6 as E230, but with no reference to the year, while at the English wiki there was no such model in a list of W211 engines (although it has been mentioned in a list of transmissions...).

P.S. God, it is the case when you actually start to rely on wikipedia!

Yes, the 2.5 litre V6 was a late addition to the W211 range. It's part of the new 4-valve engine family which replaces the old 3-valve engines.
