How far away (and how well protected) are the marshall positioned when you look at the very first part of the tape?

you mean in the first 10 seconds? there's a gravel pit and a barrier + small slope between him and the track. i'll upload a vid shortly that shows someone coming off there.

the speed there is quite high entering that corner, but unfortunately the R magic RX-7 had issues
here in this vid taken a hundred metres to the left (and further up the track) from the previous vid, with the elise, you can see the same two guys atop the concrete barrier - it's next to the track rather than directly in front like it appears to be in the other video.

Now with bonus "OH SHI-" moment!
And thats about the extent of my photography. Thankyou to the Manatee and his cruel feminine mistress for putting up with my OCD tendancies and Yoghurt eating ways, and for the Pygmies of Queensland for not putting me in a black pot and eating me.
The event was well executed with minimal fuss (which in the end kind of made it a little boring, TBH. MOAR FUSS! MOAR CRASH!) but the cars were hot and the racetrack was readily accessible.
All glory to Sexy Lobster. That is all.
