Early details for new 911 (991)

The new 911 sound good. One question without tring to soud stupid, why will the new 911 be called the 991 not the 998?

I don't know why 991, but since it's 'all new' I guess they don't just want to +1 the current model number.

Porsche historically uses internal engineering project numbers, which don't necessarily coincide with model designations.
