Believe it or not the F50 did use a formula 1 engine (kind of!). It was an extensively reworked and more civilised version of the 600bhp 3.5 litre V12 they used in the 1989 F1 car raced by Mansell and Berger (fairly unsuccesfully it must be said). Obviously it was increased to 4.7 litre, probably adding extra piston rings to help conform with emmisions regulations or something like that, and they scrapped the pneumatic valve actuation and went with standard camshafts and springs. It revs to 'only' 8500 rpm as opposed to the F1 car's 14000 rpm but kept the engine's basic character, ie fairly civilised in low revs but absolutely brutal in the top end.

Answering the thread's original question, I'd go for the F50. Not the best looking Ferrari supercar by any means but it is reportedly sensational in every other area.

The F50 is based on Alain Prost's 1990 Ferrari 641/2, but its engine has a bit more similarities with a 1992 F1 engine. The engine displacement was increased to gain more torque and make it more suitable for the street. The 8500rpm redline has much to do with noise regulations. The F50s engine can run reliably at a continuous 9000rpm. (The not-much-different engine of the F50 GT1 revs to 10500rpm.) It uses a butterfly mechanism to control inlet air- when its closed, low-end torque is improved. When the revs increase, it opens to optimize output higher in the rev band.

    Oo 'eck Descisions, descisions...

Hmm... I think I'd have to go for the F50. The Lambo is a slight bit awquard looking (although I liked the pre-facelift car), and the XJ220, although stunning to look at, is a bit of a disapointment considering it was origionally gonna get a V12. But the F50 has looks that could snap knicker elastic at 50 paces, and the performance to match

wow that amazing "rolls eyes" dodge was actaully about to pump a measily 8Liter engine to 500 Hp- i wonder if any other car company can do that.... like the V12 6.0 L diablo can do whip out 590 Hp and the Dodge has only 2 valves per cyclender while the Diablo has 4 valves (DOHC i believe its called) that lack of air flow must really help with perfeormance. finally the daiblo can dish it out 0-60 in 3.4 (im reffering to the diablo GTR). (BTW this is my favorite car which i can't afford) While the Ferrari F50 is also an monster with a V12 4.& liter Engine (i wich it was a 6.0 ) and rips with 520 Hp with a 0-60 time in 3.7

No the dodge is not badm, but don't be kidding yourself and other and calling these super cars trashy.

P.S i hope my answer pleased EggNog
