    Which one is better?

I want to choose between either of these cars:

    1) VW Golf (MKII)

    2) Opel Corsa B

Which one is a better car?
Please explain a little about your choice.

The golf because it looks better. Of course it would be helpful to know in what areas they are being compared. Are you planning to buy one or the other?

A wise man once said, "First thought, Best thought"

My first thought was the Golf.

Thinking about it, I have a few reasons why.

I am vaguely aware that Opel has a similar reputation to GM here stateside - cheap-feeling, unrefined, etc. But I don't live with Opels here on this side of the Atlantic, so I will say that it doesn't cloud my judgment, at least not to the degree it would on the Continent.

No, there are reasons I like the Golf on its own accord. It's simple, light, economical, and has good aftermarket support. Its design has aged remarkably well over the decades. It might not be as comfortable, but I think it will be a more fun ownership experience. I also think the resale values of the Golf will start to rebound. Its performance by the numbers won't be too strong, but with its older tech it will be a different experience - you'll probably feel like you're going faster than you are.

The Opel, to be fair, is probably a more comfortable car and likely just as fuel-efficient if not more. Its out-and-out performance might be slightly better. It's at an age where it is probably still losing value. It's also at an age where it's probably little more reliable than the older Golf.
