So the kids are all driving and the youngest will inherit the Corolla in a few weeks and we need something for 'er indoors to get to work in. Took a new Mitsubishi Mirage manual and auto for a drive this morning and to be honest it was not really a test drive I was looking forward to. I mean three cylinders, 1200 cc and 50kw..... Oh and of course front wheel drive
Well, choke, it wasn't all that bad. The manual had something that resembled acceleration although it was noisy. The auto (its one of those constant rubber band autos) was quieter and not altogether completely gutless. In fact it had me checking my speed a few times as it seemed to climb beyond 60kmh before I realized.
It has airbags, traction control, bluetooth connectivity (actually one of the modern appointments I find useful) electric windows and reasonable room for 4 people. I had the front seat 3/4 the way back and could still sit in the back without my knees touching the front seat. that said I am a short arse at 5'11'.
No its not my type of car, it is shy at least another full car full of cylinders and about 200kw and it drives from the wrong end but for what it is and has to do it is ok. I would even drive it in an emergency. And it is dirt cheap by Australian standards at $12000 or $14500 for the auto on road.
OK, dont tell anyone I liked it, kind of....
