Cheapest auto insurance for a young driver?

I'll be getting my daughter her first car for Christmas this year.

She's 16.. will be 17 in January. Any suggestions as to where to buy insurance that won't break the bank, yet is good enough for a young driver with no driving experience?

I use GEICO and my ex-wife uses Progressive. Is it worth getting her a new policy from a different company?

In Spain what is usually done is, since the car will most probably be registered to one of the parents, list her in the insurance as an occasional driver, with the policyholder and main driver being the parent/owner.

    This lowers the costs somewhat.

    Thanks for the suggestion Ferrer.

Cheapest I found so far was from 4autoinsurancequote.com for $59/month , but naturally this sounds way too good to be true. Anyone have experience with them?

Insurance for a 17 year-old is just insane. What Ferrer says is possibly the best way to go and technically not some sort of insurance fraud... right?

Whatever you do don't go with State Farm.
