On Wednesday, the annual Retromobile show in Paris will open its doors. Among the main themes this year is a special Lancia display created by Swiss broker Lucas Huni. One of the cars due to star on this display will be a genuine D24 Sport Pinin Farina Spyder. Created by Vittorio Jano in the early 1950s, this V6-engined sports car was one of the most sophisticated racers of its era. During its brief career, the D24 won the Carrera Panamericana, Targa Florio and the Mille Miglia. Unfortunately the sports car program was dovetailed in favour of a more prestigious Grand Prix effort. This ambitious venture literally bankrupted the company and the competition program was wound down entirely. At that time all cars were scrapped. During the 1980s, four replicas were built using original components. The Lancia D24 featured and due to appear at Retromobile is one of the actual survivors, making it one of the most important Lancias in existence.
Ahead of the official launch at the Geneva Motor Show early in March, BMW have released the first details and images of the all-new 4-Series Gran Coupe. The range will be topped by the 435i Gran Coupe, which is powered by the 300 bhp, turbocharged straight-six engine. Also included in the line-up will be a choice of diesel engines and an optional four-wheel drive version. A Motorsport model will no doubt follow.
