Earlier this month the Circuit de la Sarthe hosted the centenary edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The capacity entry of 62 cars featured the largest top level prototype field in years with defending champions facing newcomers Ferrari, Porsche, Cadillac and Peugeot. Further helped by the changeable conditions, it was an eventful and very tight race that went to the wire. In addition to the actual race, the 100th anniversary was marked in great style with a parade of winning cars and other interesting machines that previously raced at Le Mans. Among the spectacular field were a large number of Porsche 917s, 956s and 962s and also the two time winning TWR WSC 95. The more recent Audis and Toyotas were also out in force, while Mazda brought over the ever popular 787B for the centenary.
Our friend Bob van de Wolf was on hand to capture all the highlights in this gallery, which serves to illustrate our brief report.
