Hmm...yeah, I'll take the iQ over the Smart. CVT is kind of a bummer, but then again, what else is new in the 'States. People don't buy manuals here anymore.

They fold down, like in most hatchbacks. The point is not having to use them everyday, but rather being there in case you need them.
Indeed. It is quite expensive though as well. The only problem I see with it is that it is very limited; it only does one thing and in Europe this job is mostly done by public transport. I'm sure it can also go outside the city but I'd rather have a Yaris for that.
Another clever city car is (was?) the Mitsubishi i.

I can see that. Chrysler put the PT Cruiser into production because it counted as a truck in the US fuel economy standards. It let them cheat their way out of a fine, because their trucks were well behind the competition's FE numbers.
