Many heads have spark plugs in the top and valves on either side. It seems strange that a slight curve would make that much difference. I know Chrysler promoted Hemi Valiants back in the 70's in Australia. My father once showed me a mechanical text book fron the 1930s that showed and described hemispherical heads back then. I thought that it was no more than a marketing gimmick from Chrysler then.

in 65 or 66, thre was 426 Hemi that the factory claimed made 425 horses, but there are stories of people testing them on dynos at around 575 horses. sadly it was a race engine

and in 69 and 70 the 426 hemi was used in the Charger Daytona and Roadrunner Superbird in NASCAR, and was banned because it whooped everything else and also was the first car to break 200 in NASCAR

To give credit where credit is due, you can thank Peugeot for developing the world's first hemisphirical head engine.

    more 'bout hemi's

come to think of it, putting a hemi in a new car is pointless. does anyone know if NASCAR and NHRA still make manufactuaers put race blocks in production cars? cause i think chevy use the 5.7L block and Dodge uses the 6.0L(from the ram i presume) and im not to sure about ford. the hemi was so good becasue NASCAR and NHRA only allow 2 valvle/cylinder, and the hemi allowed larger vavles than everyone else. i know back then the race block had to be in a production car (that how the BOSS 429 was born)

you can't put 4 vavles on a hemi which sucks so i guess my question is why wouldn't chrysler just use a dohc 4-vavle in the new vehicles?

From what i read they had to put many hour of engiering in to make then engine burn cleanly the hemis used to be very poluting units and they were bloody heavy also thats about the only bad things i can say about them. Other then that i can wait to see them hit our roads how about a new valient?
