    Air Car

What do you guys think about this?

    http://www.theaircar.com/

I think that technology would be amazing and very beneficial to the planet. I know the performance aspect of things would not be as fun, but as an everyday commute vehicle, it would work just fine.

Because all environmentally friendly vehicles need to be so ugly it makes small children run away crying.

Yeah, I agree with you guys on the styling. But just imagine an Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider body on top of that powerplant. I'd drive that around to save the environment.

Well said. I don't understand what's so friggin' hard about putting this stuff into a normal freakin car.

Because the car has to be EXTREMELY aerodynamic, and to achieve this, the car turns out ugly. The lower the coefficiency of friction, the better the gas (or air) mileage.

But technically, what's stopping them from putting it into a normal car? Space? I don't think so... Sure, it might get a couple MPG less, but when you start selling a lot more of them, suddenly you're actually doing more good.

Guess that's true, but they lose a lot of mpg's by doing that. Probably around 10 or so... I'm not too educated about this but that's my guess.

As far as I'm concerned, that photo doesn't look to aerodynamic to me. I stil think they can build efficient cars, that have some sense of style. Just look at the Lancia Ypsilon.

Pollution is a big issue they say, I gage just when a diesel truck sites in a shopping-center parking lot here. For towing they are great, but daily driving? When we had the east-cost USA black-out here in the USA, within 24hours sulfur dioxide levels (linked to cancer, lung problems, the growing rate of pre-mature deaths..) went down 90% in multiple areas. Why? The plants where shut down.

The eye can be deceived. When Ford launched the Ford Transit van in the 70s it was MORE aerodynamic than the sleek looking, small Ford Consul car !!
Big rounded front and smaller back is (generally) MORE aerodynnamic than pointy front

Confirmed with daughter ( doing Biology in school ).
The largest producer of SO2 is power stations.
Plants ABSORB SO2 and hence why they suffer in polluted areas.
More likely the decrease was down to the shutdown of coal and oil fired power stations while they fixed the network.
Also, factories and offices were shut, so people weren't travelling to work in cars perhaps ?
Worth checking sources before urban myth starts up

I suppose ; the Lamborghini Countach wasn't to good despite it's sleek shape.

I really jumped there; I don't know how much cars put out. Sources? If they could only be found
