    New Jeep for military use

Should Comcast, which is buying NBC, have more motorsports coverage on VERSUS and now NBC? Does North America need a racing tv channel? Find the answer to that exact question on facebook.

i think this is actually a good thing. The Humvee is a great vehicle for its intended purpose, but the fact is that it is used much more than necessary. What the land based military services could use is a smaller, more reliable, and more efficient vehicle, for use stateside and in peaceful areas around the world. I would much rather be in an armored Humvee or MRAP if i were in a combat zone, but thats not the only places the US military lives and works.

CMC brings up good points in his post.

Besides, the H1 is way too thirsty anyway.

I suppose their stupid pride wouldn't let them use the sensible choice of a Landcruiser 70 series....

we are required to use american made vehicles as much as possible. it is very rare that we use foreign made anything.

    QFT.

I'd much rather be in a Humvee when it gets hit by an RPG then a Jeep.

chrysler is far worse than GM in my experience, anything other than a wrangler will just crap itself in the middle of nowhere, but i can see them having success as a light vehicle.
naval point defence ftw in your case

No its because the H1 was better. Although this jeep can be used for military purposes it probably still won't be as widely used as the hummer for years at least.

And in wartime the military might not be able to rely on foreign suppliers which is another issue of why they use American built products. Name me another Western European army that uses the Toyota cause I can't think of any (France uses their own thing, Germany the Mercedes, Britain the land rover, etc).

a lot of military and private forces use the H1. it is old and needs a redesign but it's still superior.

I'd much rather be in a Striker than a Humvee.

The rumors have been going around for a couple of years about the Humvee being replaced. The problem is it was never designed for front line service, but the Guerrilla wars being fought right now have no defined front line. Sure you can slap some armor plating on it, but that makes it slower and gives inadequate protection against anything more than smallarms fire. In theaters like IRAQ the striker is much better suited for most of the Hummer's jobs. Its faster than an up-armored Humvee and much better armored than slow moving aluminum-armored can known as the M-113.

The Humvee is ridiculously wide to give it better stability negotiating rough terrain. The problem is the USA is about the only place with roads wide enough to operate it. Many of the roads in the places where we fight were made with Ox carts in mind. In some instances a smaller more nimble vehicle is needed, but I was expecting a little more than an improved Wrangler.

I heard that the Striker isn't adequately armored, although it's better than a Hummer.

    BTW, Mercedes G-Wagon FTW.

However, the Land Cruiser does get an honorable mention because lots of Asian countries use it too.

you woudn't want to be French though. Turns out that the French are currently trying to endorse this Fiat Humvee clone that is bound to suck, check out the wheels (dubs)
