And a couple 2013's
This thread made me think of the last Land Rover I wanted, the old Defender. I thought sure I'd be able to score a deal on one, snap it up for $5-10k. Nope, they are still running $40k

It all depends on who old you want them.

Here in Holland the prices start around € 5000 for a 1984 version
That's more like it.

This is the Boxster of Range Rovers. The want you actually want is the proper one.

Gotcha. Hm. I actually prefer the Boxster...seems more pure to me.

Yea, apparently the new one's pretty dang amazing. Cayman as well. Kinda funny that in the 70s they wanted to replace the 911 with the 928, which failed miserably because it was a totally different vehicle. Now they're holding back on the Boxter/Cayman because it actually could replace the 911.. or at least steal sales from it.

Can't figure these Range Rovers out. They aren't the incredible off-roaders they used to be, and by definition an SUV will never be that great on the road...guess they still just carry that Range Rover cachet and are expensive, so celebs gravitate towards them?

The real RRs still have proper off-roading capabilities - proper low range transfer box, nice ground clearance, locking diffs etc and this RRS has them as an option so in that regard they're better than most SUVs. They won't be as great as a dedicated off-roader type scenario, but they're also a lot more comfy. They're luxury that you can take pretty much anywhere.
Not my cup o' tea, but I can see the attraction much more than for an X5/X6.

Hm. Didn't know they were still so spec'd out for off-roading. I respect that. I thought they had gone flaccid by now. Does the suspension work pretty well for off-roading still? How about those tyres, they look pretty biased to some nice smooth tarmac...

Tyres is probably the main thing they don't have really, pretty much road biased tyres I guess are standard. The suspention on the RRs is air suspension so you can raise em up, not sure about the RRSs.
