Is Mclaren F1 the fastest car?

I always though the F1 was the fastest street legal car ever built. I have been reading about the 1988 Twin Turbo Callaway Sledgehammer Corvette and the specs are very impressive.

    Twin Turbo V8
    880 bhp / 656 kW

    The times are impressive also

    Mclaren F1 Sledgehammer
    0 - 60 mph 3.1 sec 3.9 sec
Quater Mile 11.1 sec 10.6 sec

Top Speed 222 mph 254 mhp

Is the F1 considered the fastest car because it is a production vehicle whereas the Sledgehammer is a modification of a production car?

You got it pal. I believe the Sledgehammer is a one-off but there are a few Mac F1s around.

    Actual Figures for the F1:

0-60 in 3.1 or 3.2 (fastest two figures I've seen)

    Top Speed: 241mph

It's not really fair to compare these two. You shouldn't compare stock cars with modified cars.

Yeah thats why I was asking because I was reading an article about how the Sledgehammer should be called the fastest car and not the F1. I bet it was written by an American!

Coz if we did then Thrust2 wins all the speed awards by a LONG way

The Sledgehammer Corvette is NOT stock. That's why. It's just a Corvette modified. Its not originally intent to go that fast.

If the Mc. F1 was modified, the original model would still be faster.

what about tuned cars, whats the fastest?

I can only think of a Lingenfelter corvette, 0-60 in 1.7

top speed: 250mph or something like that

I think in 0-60 maybe the Sledgehammer.
Or the HKS Nissan 200SX Drag Car. In a way, it is modified, but then again, its not street legal.
    0-60: 1.2 sec

I'm not a n00b, and maybe you should learn how to spell it.

BTW, if you're going to blame me for the 0-60, you better go blame someone else. Such as Fast-Autos.
