This really is one of the coolest mules ever.
This will become the all-new Mercedes-Benz sportscar with gullwing-doors. So far there are only these "official" spyshots and technical pictures, which have leaked out of an official showing to potential customers.
This car is completely developed by AMG.
Technical datas (as far as they are known today):
6.2 litre V8 (same engineblock as known from the C/E/S/CL/CLS/SL 63 AMG cars)
420KW/571hp
650 Nm of torque
transaxle 7-speed-double-clutch-transmission
weight distribution: 48/52% (front/rear)
1620kg (130kg lighter than the SLR McLaren)
Carbon-ceramic brakes (optional?)
Debut should be at the Frankfurt Motorshow (IAA) 2009

Pretty cool. Do you think Mercedes will consider putting a manual in one of these cars?
Makes you wonder, if Mercedes is developing a supercar, where is BMW and Porsche? Sigh...
this is a cool car....all those parts render pics are also very interesting.....

I can't see Mercedes putting a manual in the SLS - paddle shifters and/or full auto.
As for the latter, well, there just was the Carrera GT and BMW isn't so much about the pure sportscars.
However, I would like to see BMW develop a sportscar a la the Z4 but one contesting say, F430s, Gallardos, etc, as well as a full on supercar above that. How economically viable this is especially now is a strong matter of contention for BMW brass however.
Yeah, you're right about the transmission choice, but it'd be something nice to hope for, you know?
The Carrera GT was about 4 years back, no? That's pretty long ago.
BMW used to make pure-er sports cars/sedans. But I don't think they made anything that was the caliber of the F430 since, the M1 maybe? I read rumors before of a light mid engined sports car with the M5 mill a long time back. I doubt that's even going to be looked into at the factory.
There will only be the 7 speed dualclutch transmission, no auto, no manual.
