It looks like something Pininfarina could have styled.
If you should see a man walking down a crowded street talking aloud to himself, don't run in the opposite direction, but run towards him, because he's a poet. You have nothing to fear from the poet - but the truth.

What a great Mercedes ! Never seen it before.Sure, it's not a C111. Try to ask on the forum of this website : http://www.supercarfrance.com
It does share a lot of lines with the C111's
but also with the C112:
The "C11x" are famous prototype/mule cars from Mercedes to test out new designs and ideas. Maybe the car you have found is a "C111,5"!?
The C112 was also my first thought, until I went back to my own pictures of that car.....this is something else.

AFAIK it's an early, 1969 C111 prototype design study (C111-Designstudie), designed by Bruno Sacco. Piece of beauty.

its beautiful.
That C112, when did they make it? Who ripped off who with the back half of it? It stinks of NSX.
Ecnelis is right, it is a C111 II by Bruno Sacco.
C112 is concept of 1991

But it was also the only C111 with a Diesel (i have a magacine that says so)

C111-III was Diesel-powered, too, and it broke few Diesel-powered cars records. Diesel engines were used also in C111-IV and in some time in C111-II, if I'm not wrong.
I think I've read that there were a few versions of those gullwing concepts. They were sort of test beds, so they built a few different revisions to test different hardware. This one appears to be somewhere between the C111 and C112.
Edit: particularly the C111, it had different versions with different engines, Diesel, Wankel, etc.
This picture has three different ones:

All about the t-tops
Compared to the other C series prototypes, this model seems to be much less angular and much more sensuous. It's gorgeous.
