I'm pretty sure it's a Manta Mirage kit car.
I'll try and find some pics to confirm

With the proviso that being on the other side of the world far from these long-ago events and I'm happy to be enlightened ..

This is what became of the literally-original AMG-modified 300 SEL 6.8
    http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/D...23/w109amg.htm

AMG started out as a tiny concern which concentrated on motorsport and I always assumed that they would have converted very few 6.3s into 6.8 road-cars from new, if any - but I have little info on which to base this. I think they built only one or two examples for racing

Do you or anyone else anyone know how many 6.3s were originally converted by AMG into 6.8s?

Btw Mercedes 6.3 itself was a great machine and most mentions still claim it was the world's fastest production-sedan model. But definately by 1969 it was no longer the quickest accelerating four-door, and from 1970 not possessing the fastest top speed either. For trivia a 6.3 was purchased by a noted racer with the intention of competing in the 1969 Bathurst 500 mile enduro (which would've been fantastic to see) but untimately it was alas not entered after being adjudged not capable of outright honours
Well I don't know how many road going 300 SEL 6.3 were converted to 6.8 AMG-spec, but I found this link about the history of AMG.

    AMG History.

There you have some interesting information, like the second overall and class victory of the AMG-entered in the 1971 (I was a bit wrong with the year) 24 hours of Spa.

Road-going cars wise, the modified some 300 SEL 6.3, updating the engine to 280bhp and beefing up the suspension and brakes. The scrit below the picture says that the red saloon is a 300 SEL 6.3, and not a 6.8, but I assume it's a 6.3 tuned by AMG.

And last the black coupe is a 5.6 CE AMG, nicknamed the Hammer, which had a 360bhp 5.6-litre V8 engine, and had a top speed in excess of 300km/h (186mph).

However there's no info of road going 300 SEL 6.8 AMG.

You're right. Infact I've seen one on kitcars.com for sale with the exact same paint job .. thats where I remember it from. As I said, it's a replica of the McLaren M6 (Can-Am) and in some forms, can be quite frighteningly fast. Nicely aerodynamic I would presume.

second I do'nt know, it has the side shape and colour settings of the Gaylord concept car from 1955, may be continued working on this design and produced something just, but only just, slightly more attractive

Edit: It says: Excalibur before the rear wheel, that should give you a hint....
