While Canada might be one of the world’s leading auto producers, the respective parent companies are all based elsewhere. The American and Japanese manufacturers assemble hundreds of thousands of cars, trucks and SUVs on our soil, but Canadians haven’t had a ‘home team’ to root for since the ill-fated Bricklin SV-1 debacle of the late ‘70s.
However, a company out of St. Eustache, QC wants to put Canada back in buyers’ minds, although they’re skipping city cars or pickup trucks and going straight to supercars. HTT Technologies is showing off its Pléthore LC-750, a full-blown carbon-fibre monster that, as its name suggests, produces a healthy 750 horsepower. The supercharged 6.2-litre V8 engine starts as a GM unit, but gets massaged by HTT to insane levels. There’s even an option to dial up the boost to 1,300 hp. The six-speed sequential manual transmission routes all that power to the huge 20-inch rear tires.
The neatest aspect is that the LC-750 mimics the world’s most famous supercar – the McLaren F1 – by using a central driving position flanked by two passengers. Company reps at the show say the driving experience is more organic than Lamborghinis and Ferraris you can buy for similar money. HTT only want $350,000 for the privilege of owning one, and you can be sure you won’t see another one in the Holt’s parking lot as they’re only making eight in 2010, and another 25 the year after.
