I would buy a much more interesting car with that money...
Even if i wanted a cobra, my choice would undoubtedly be the Daytona Coupe.

seeing the car sold for 5 mil, its definetly an original cobra, not some replica most people see. To be honest, for 5 mil, I'd rather buy a Ferrari 360 and have it customized to my liking . For a car about the same age as that cobra, however, I'd go for a 250 GTO Ferrari.

i believe an aircraft factory in the ukraine (or was it poland) makes replicas as good as the original cobra. by which i mean, they're allowed to compete in concourse events as originals. and they're a damn sight cheaper than $5mill.

edit: at some point shelby himself bought 50 shells off them to sell as his own or something.

I can't understand the high value of this model, the more so as it can be easily reproduced as a 100% correct copy and only the chassis plate would be the giveaway .

Its the fact that it is an unbelievably stupid and exciting car. Thats why it sold for 5 million. Other than Koenigseggs, how often have you seen a new car, or old with 2 superchargers and a 427 in a car that weighs less than some Lotus's. It's the fact that something so outrageous was made, it is a stupid car, it's an insane car and no one should have built it but here it is. That is why it's worth 5mil.

There is something obviously wrong with this picture - the price.

as much as their is Kudos attached to buying a real Louis Vuitton handbag, many people will choose the knock-off cheap brand if they can't tell the difference. and no one can tell the difference between a regular Cobra replica and this one. the casual observer will still just think "cool car".

Or perhaps because the manual couldn't cope with the torque.

Could be. I would think that any transmission that went into that car had to be modded quite a bit.

That $5 million pricetag means this car is not going to do much, just sit around hidden in some bunker for 99.99% of the time

As I understand it, that's what all this buyer's cars do.
