Well in the end the stop-gap will be something a little bit more expensive.
A Hyundai i30 1.4 something or other.
Funny moment when the salesman was trying to convince me that it wouldn't be all that much slower than the BMW...

Visca Catalunya!
So, for 12,000€ your choices are either another 280,000 kms in a diesel BMW OR - a slow death to boredom in the stupid Hyundai.
I'm glad I don't have to make the choice.
If you can, hang on to the BMW. You already know the car.
It isn't so bad...
Ok it is. But it's new and cheap, and won't break down and will be cheap to run.
After that we will probably be splitting Barcelona's cars. So we will keep the i30 and then get something more exciting and sporty.

All my vehicles are mid engined, come to think of it. Also they're totally impractical, despite my protestations otherwise at times. Whoo!
Life's too short to drive bad cars.
I don't think he can. Normally there's a limit on how much "extra" KMs you can do as well. Something like 15%. If you go over that limit they recalculate your monthly fee. And you'll be presented with a bill which amounts to the difference between your original monthly fee and the newly recalculated one. Multiplied by the months (years) you have been driving it.
So that's 15% of the allowed mileage multiplied by 4,3cents/km + the lease price recalculation, which can and will be thousands of euros.
Why not go for that i30 outright ? You should be able to get that financed. The Audi as a stop gap seems a more expensive solution tbh. And I really can't believe that's it fun to drive, even with the 6 cylinder engine
Have it since yesterday. Have done 170km in it so far.
First the faults:
-The engine is too small. This makes the car slow and makes you go flat out if you want to make any sort of decent progress.
-The gearbox lacks a sixth gear. This makes high speed cruising noisy and unpleasant. At 150-160km/h the car is turning at 5.000rpm which is too much in my opinion. But even at 120-130km/h it is quite noisy.
-The steering feels artificial. It's not actually Lancia-like bad, and it odes feel connected to the wheels. But, especially in high speed corners, it makes you less confident about it.
-The brakes are fine. And that's the problem. Just fine isn't enough. It also seems like ABS isn't as well calibrated as it should, allowing a small degree of wheel locking.
But.
I'm amazed.
It isn't desperate. I approached it thinking it would just be a transportation device. And yet handling isn't bad at all. Of course, being a front wheel drive car, it understeer at the limit, but actually if you lift-off in the middle of a corners the back steps out to help. Don't get me wrong, it's not Mini-like playful but for an unpretentious* family hatchback it drives suprisingly well. Despite the small wheels (185/65 R15) there's plenty of grip as well.
And it does all of this while riding well, with excellent body control. It isn't hard at all like the BMW or rolls in the corners like a boat as in the Lancia. It somewhat manages to achieve a very good compromise between handling and ride comfort.
*Just looked at the spec sheet and discovered it's got fully independent rear suspension

So you can say that you were pleasantly surprised?
Ok Ferrer, I'm going to ask bluntly here - do you like it?
Yes or no please.
