    Toro Rosso (F1-2009) STR4

New Toro Rosso car for the 2009 season. In keeping with their theme of only hiring drivers called Sebastien, Sebastien Bourdais will now be partnered by F1 débutante Sebastien Buemi who replaces Red Bull-bound Seb Vettel.

I always find it interesting that despite the obvious same design base for both RBR and STR, the car ends up being different in some obvious area, ie mirrors....

I wonder if they are doing it on purpose for differentiation sake....

They aren't allowed to use the same chassis for both teams. They did at first, but FIA said no (but they want to cut the costs... well.... yes...)

I assume that checkered pattern in the CF is in the weave...if so I haven't seen any like that IIRC.

Indeed. He also looks like he was separated at birth from former Jaguar driver Justin Wilson (who also looks a bit creepy/like Lurch off the Addams Family). The resemblance is uncanny.

Yep thats in the weave, I've seen a Formula SAE car that has that....not surprisingly the school was sponsored by CarboTech(Austrian, I believe, the school was TU Graz, also Austrian), which was the company that made the STR Tub before.....now I believe this was made in-house in Italy...

They were given special dispensation until the end of this year. Next year they have to meet a stricter definition of being a constructor.

Why would a team called Red Bull not have more red on the cars? Dark cars do not show up well on TV.

The point is not to show the car but to show the sponsor in which case the red over dark blue pops. Sponsors often own the livery and have the say in how it will look.

Furthermore, the product Red Bull doesnt have that much colour red on it anyway. Sure the bull's red, and on the STR thats the dominant part of the livery, but the can is silver/blue

Actually when I was working with a Formula BMW team that was sponsored by Red Bull, the company had very specific request as to what shade of blue they want and we had to repaint the car after after the first race to the proper "blue" for the rest of the season....
