    "Spyker will buy Lotus"

According to a Dutch carmagazine, Spyker wants to buy Lotus Cars. Spyker denies the reports but Victor Muller, the owner of Spyker, officially stated: 'We are determined to make Spyker grow in the next few years and the purchasing of a prestigious brand is an option.'

After the take-over Spyker would want to produce the new D12 Peking-To-Paris. Alleged is also that the development of the F1 cars would be moved to England.

    Interesting...

I can't help but think that the new Esprit will be a cross between a Spyker and an Elise...

Where exactly do Spyker get their funding from? They are a very low volume manufacturer that has been built out of nowhere in the space of less than a decade. I doubt that they can be turning over huge sums of money, let alone making massive profits given the overheads of setting up a whole new company and factory from scratch. Then all of a sudden they go and buy a Formula 1 team out of the blue. F1 is one of the most financially costly and risky things for any manufacturer to embark on, let alone a tiny, young company like Spyker. If they want to make any serious success of their project they'll have to throw vast sums of money at it. And now apparently they're planning to acquire another specialist sportscar manufacturer, one with a decidedly chequered financial record at that. Seems an incredibly risky business strategy.

I believe there are some successfull businessmen behind the rebirth of Spyker. But I am as shocked as you to read this news. Last year Spyker made profit for the first time ever. They immediately buy a F1 team and now even think of buying a whole new brand...

For me it's just as mysterious as it is for you, believe me...

It's what Spyker is about isn't it? The Risk? I mean, check the cars out, if that's not risky...

I'd rather see Lotus owned by Spyker than by Proton or some other Malaysian manufacturer...but that's just my opinion. And, if they're multimillionaires...they can! On the other hand, Spyker doesn't have much of a name, and that's precisely Lotus' major advantage. If it's true, i believe it's a good move.

i dont think it would be an awful thing. if spyker can impart the quality that seems to be in the spykers, then it will probably benefit lotus which has always struggled with interiors

its easy to make £250k interiors, harder to make 25k ones, even with bigger volumes

I hope Spyker knows what they are doing (If they do go through with the purchase). I mean they will have to dump money (alot of money) which I dont see them having alot of. Into these two brands. (even if they are funded by millionaire's). It's great that Spyker wants to grow, but they should work on growing 'Spyker' itself first, before adding new brands to the equation.

I have to agree with Jack_Bauer on this one.

Dude, that's not precise, at all.

This seems a bit strange, but, if they have the money, it could be work out well for them. I am sure that the investors and management are fully capable of understanding and managing their finances; I assume that they wouldn't even consider this if they weren't convinced that it would work well for them.

    I wish them luck.

What evidence do you have to support that slander?

If the owners of Spyker had enough financial intelligence to set up and expand the brand, and buy a F1 team I'm thinking they would know what they are getting into when buying a PROFITABLE sports car and consulting company.

It's a surprising move. I saw Spyker coming out of nowhere with their C8/C12 a couple of years ago and now they are in F1 and wishing to buy a legendary manufacturer founded by a legendary man also, the late Colin Chapman.

That's... interesting, not to say strange. I also wonder where do they get their money. If they can keep Lotus and have things working, then good for them. I only wish they won't both slumps. I also wish them good luck.
