    Seat Exeo

Seat is going to launch sometime in 2009 a new 4-door saloon and 5-door estate to compete with the Ford Mondeo and Renault Laguna, amongst others, in the D-segment.

This car is nothing more than a rebadged old B7 Audi A4 with some subtle badges.

Is this a brilliant idea or one the worst rip-offs ever? Will this mean you'll be able to buy a brand new Audi on the cheap, or should just go for a 2nd hand A4? Also, will this affect A4 residuals?

    I'm undecided.

It was either goint to be an Audi or a Passat... whichever one has the longer term plaftorm. Those who want an Audi badge will go second hand, the rest can have one of those. I don't think it'll have much of an effect on residuals.. badge lust will see to that.

It isn't uncomon in the VW Group, although this is very close to the A4, the price will help to sell, like it did for the Octavia, i wish Seat could have sticked to the Leon design and done something similar to this.

It's probably going to be a reasonable car, just like the previous-gen A4...but now it's lost it's Audi identity it has no personality. It just looks like a bland, slab-sided repmobile with no exciting features and I just don't see it selling when even something like a Mondeo looks cool these days.

Seats usually look cool, fresh and funky too...actually, wait...the new ones are starting to look boring.

It will probably be a good car with a hopefully right price.
But the idea it's blamable, all this sharing-platform-components-etc trend is killing personalities, ideas, style if continuously done in this way.
It could be criticized as well, but at least the Alfa MiTo looks different from the Fiat Punto, and not only at first glance.

But this isn't really platform sharing, is it?

This is just an Audi A4 on the cheap.

I wonder if we'll get a cut price V8-engined Cupra version. That'd be great.

it is a weird mix of passat mazda3 and a4.
Maybe the vw group is getting to large and is overusing badge engineering

EDIT: I know vw doesnt own mazda, this kinda makes it sound like I don't.

yeah, but they cars are more modified than this. the more resemblant car was the first gen Superb, but at least it was stretched Passat, not just a Passat, better than nothing. The Octavia is basically a Golf, but it's different from the Jetta, not the same for the wagon though.

As a Spanish, you are supposed to like Seat...if you are, well, tasteless...
for the record, the last one I liked was the first gen Leon.
