Im going to stick my head out hear and say for a 60k SUV, id have a Cayenne. To be fair, the Q7 is nice and roomy inside, quite good to be driven in, but still fat and ugly.

    it's a longer Cayenne.
If you have to go for the cheaper version of the Cayenne, I would rather go for the Q7.

besides, yeah, a Ferrari pollutes more than a Q7. but a 60.000 € sports car no, at all. Without even considering an Elise, even a 350Z pollutes less.
and don't you dare to say it isn't better than any SUV or Niko would kill you .
£60k buys a 911 here...I was talking about the UK market (I have no idea about prices in Euroland! )

That statement could apply to either MPVs or SUVs. As I said - I'd rather not have either...but if pushed, I'd take an SUV.

Again, that could be applied equally to MPVs...the rest is "image" - Maybe I'd prefer to look like I actually had some size of penis than look like a soccer mom on the school run...!

Jokes aside though Albert, I don't plan to have to make the decision on whether I want an MPV or SUV - I don't like either and even if I were to have children, I wouldn't want enough to warrant anything with more than 5 seats.

Even if things go wrong...a Tuscan has enough torque to tow a trailer methinks!!!

Actually...one more idea: Instead of spending £15-£20k on one MPV...how about one for as cheap as you could get it and the change on a sports car?

    Audi Q7 4.2 petrol, 73.500 €, 350 bhp, 13,3 liters/100 km, CO2: 317 g/km
    Porsche 911 (997 mk2), 86.000 €, 345 bhp, 10,3 liters/100 km, CO2: 242 g/km

I would stick with the sports car thank you

Clive I see your point. But even so, MPVs are better than SUVs because they are lighter and have a low centre of gravity. Also they don't not to carry all the pointless excess engeering that four wheel drive means.

Of course I'd prefer not to, but if I needed 7 seats I wouldn't want an SUV.

In such case I would be honest and buy a Lancia Phedra (again), with 41.000 € you have everything you need (even too much really), 170 bhp (I was fine with 136 for the record) and a decent mileage.

    Lancia Phedra 2.2 JTD (PSA biturbo diesel engine): 41.300 €, 170 bhp, 7,2 L/100 km, CO2: 191 g/km

and a boot larger than that of a Q7.

It's just that, unless I needed to go off road, or needed 7 seats, I personally wouldn't buy a 4x4. I'd rather spend the same on a sporty saloon/estate AND a sports car (for £60k you could buy a Jaguar XF AND a Maserati 3200, for example!).
Exactly. It is simply a matter of what a person wants. I'd take a sports-saloon or a sports-car as well, no doubt, as well, but not everyone wants them, and some people have different priorities.

Because an S-Max doesn't have an interior nearly as nice or comfortable as a Q7, and if you can, you should, I feel. My mum hates driving MPVs like the Touran or the S-Max, and I hate sitting in the back of them, and you can definitely feel the difference when you sit in them; you don't need a back to back comparison.

The seats in a Q7 are also much nicer than those in a fully-loaded A6 or 5series. The A6 interior is also very similar to the Q7s, but not quite as nice, whereas the 5series' is much less attractive. XF is alright though, the choice between XF interior and Audi-style is down to personal choice.

What's the point? You get 2 fewer seats; the Q7 is ugly with the wrong spec (like in the pics), but an S-Line with 21" rims is much, much better looking than a Cayenne of similar pricing.

Erm. The whole point of the facelift thread is to use the facelifted data . New Q7 3.0 is 8.9l/100km while the 4.2TDI is 9.9l/100km. So it's cleaner than the 911. If you need a new frugal sports car, people, buy a Q7 diesel!!!

Then you need a Merc R-Class.
