Of course, this is a critical car for JLR, with its new platform and new Ingenuous (or something like that) family of engines. How the hell do they come up with these names? #3

I kind of like the V6 just for the central exhaust system. I wonder if you can retrofit the V8 one to get the central exhausts. Reminds me of the 911 GT3.

I don't mind central twin pipes or a dual exhaust with two pipes on each side.

I was thinking more about the music.

This is not the golden age of sports "saloons" whatever a saloon is. We left that behind from circa 2000-2012.

The M5 E39 was the peak of all sports saloons; it was the best by then and it will never be surpassed. We all know that.

But putting that aside, we have the perennial favourite the 3 Series, Jaguar is introducing this and in June 2015 (if the plans don't change, which being Italian is bound to happen...) we will have the new rear wheel drive Alfa Romeo Giulia with us.

It's hard to not be at least a little bit excited about them.

And the Alfa will be worst in class but the press will fall over themselves trying to say positive things about it because it is an Alfa and Alfa last made good cars 40 years ago...

The press is basically saying every single new car BMW makes was worse than its predecessor. That makes me very unexcited, cuz they are the standard bearer for luxury performance sedans. The 63 is gone, may it rest in peace. Audi sucks. Infiniti, Acura, and Lexus figuratively put me to sleep.

So I guess the XE and Alfa are the most exciting, but they are maybe the only excitement being injected. I care so little about the BMW in general now, and the M3 and M4 specifically, it isn't funny.

The Germans may be napping, but at least Cadillac will be compensating with the ATS-V and CTS-V. Not too keen on the interior design, but at least they're exciting and drive surprisingly well.

    The Giulietta is good car.

It is true that BMW are getting worse, though. But I think that you can somewhat strike a good balance if you fiddle with the options; like narrow tyres and M Suspension or something. There is something intrinsically BMW that is still present and that it is deeply satisfying: the way all the controls feel.

The last C-Class was a good driver's car too, even in standard non-AMG run of the mill form, but I don't know if they've kept the good handling for the new one.

New Ingenium family petrol engines won't be available till 2016. Until then, Ford sourced 2,0 litre turbo will have to do for lesser models.

And yes, the red one is XE-S with a supercharged V6

I drove one a while ago and it felt much better than the BMW 3 Series.
