    The brake thingy...

B.M.W. has realized (finally) that the stopping performance isnt limited strictly to the size of the rotor or the strength of the pistons. It is also limited to the width of the tire as well as the strength of the sidewall.A good o.e.m. tire is made to be affordable for the automaker to use in large number but good enough for the general public. If a factory car has 15 inch ,six piston calipers but has small weak tires it will not stop correctly. Also if a car has small size calipers and one piston but huge wheels and tires the same holds true.Finding the balance in an o.e.m. application is key.It doesnt take 30 inch Diameter, fourteen caliper brake setups to stop a small car such as this.

But have they also realize the sliding caliper design is not meant for a performance car with track application in mind under heavy braking loads.....a sliding caliper mount deflects more, which translate into longer pedal travel, and uneven brake wear. A big, multi-piston caliper setup is not just for gimmick, they are also a lot less complient and consistant because they do not have to wait for the caliper take a set after brake application....

If a slidng caliper design is adequete, for a track oriented car like the CSL, why have they not gone with the design on their racing cars, it is cheaper, lighter and easier to package in the wheel, and yet their racer have gone with the "traditional" multi-piston fixed caliper design that is heavier and more expensive? Rule package certainly does not dictate the "minimum" spec you have to use(but definitely the maximum). And the oveall braking force can be easily equalled by choosing the appropreate Master cylinder to Piston ratio....

Did you download them, resize them and save them?

Its probably becquse they are still im CMYK format, and not jpeg format.

Open them up in PS, copy them, and paste them to a new page, and just save them as jpg. outta work.

I get caught out every once in a while too.

I actually think it might have to do with the changes Wouter is making to the site. I had one of my photos not create a thumbnail earlier and the message the site gave me was that the GD of the forums may not be the correct version - whatever that means.
