I got this a while back. I needed help on a class project and he was nice enough to help me out. I still stay in touch.
Steven:
I was born in Windsor, Ontario on September 28, 1959. The majority of my
growing up process was in the Toronto area though.
In the racing community I may have some level of influence although it's
difficult to see. I have always tried to do things right and do the right
things. Hopefully, how I have tried to conduct myself will always reflect
positively, not only on my citizenship but also on my profession.
When competing internationally and, particularly in the NASCAR community, I
am constantly referred to as: Canadian, Ron Fellows. I am very proud of our
(Canadian) racing heritage, something that the American racing media are
also aware of. I have a Gilles Villenueve to-shirt that I often wear under
my racing suit. Gilles' passion and determination are a reminder of what it
means to be a part of Canadian racing. There is a Canadian flag next to my
name on the roof of my racing cars and also on my racing suit. The red
maple leaf is also integrated into the design of my racing helmet.
I am married with three children. My wife Lynda and I vowed that when
possible, we would always travel together as a family. It's not that often
that one's children can come to work with "Dad". I don't have a regular job
and have always enjoyed travelling with my wife and family.
Our daughter Lindsay (20) is studying at McGill University in Montreal. Our
son's Sam (11) and Patrick (7) are typical boys with interests in music,
sports and also racing. Both have tried a little kart racing and likely
will pursue that more this summer.
When you travel as much as we do, you are able to see and perhaps judge the
quality of living that others have. We do have a great country, with an
extremely high standard of living that others do not have. From education
to health care, to safety and security in our communities, it is a fine
country.
We are fortunate that our population is low compared to our size
geographically, which is very different from most other countries. My wife
and I have looked at a few States in which to live but have yet to make the
move based on the standards which we have in our area. And from Toronto's
Pearson Airport, I am able to get to almost all the destinations I need to,
direct non-stop. My ability to balance family and business is affected
positively by our location in the southwest corner of Mississauga.
Canada is not perfect, particularly when you consider our tax structure but
the alternatives, based on a few of the things I have mentioned above, weigh
the balance in favour of residing here at home.
Thanks Steven,
Ron Fellows
