A founding sponsor, British auctioneer Bonhams naturally was back at the Goodwood Revival to host a sale. In fact, it was the 51st Bonhams sale at a Goodwood event. In the build up to the auction, we captured many of the highlights for our illustrated result list. While some of the expensive cars did not sell, the auction still saw 66% of the car lots sold for just over GBP 15 million.
One of the top sellers was this Jaguar XJR-11 Group C car. It was the most successful of the three built and scored a victory in front of a partisan crowd at Silverstone. Following its contemporary racing career, it spent time in the TWR museum and was later raced in historic events. Chassis 490 had been slated to race in the Le Mans Classic this year but instead was consigned to the Bonhams sale where it found a new owner for just under GBP 1.2 million.
