Good luck with those self-adjusting hydraulic lifters

Yes there's that unmistakable rattle on initial start-up, but afterwards when the camera is shifted to the rear, to right underneath the exhaust pipes under the rear bumper, and yet we can still clearly hear those tappets banging away, from far in the distance towards the front of the car .... even 1,000's of miles away[/QUOTE]
Wow... you have very good hearing if you can hear it from 1,000 miles away!

I know they are hydraulic lifters, my former '66 Dart had solid valve lifters. I meant other kinds of adjustments.

Didn't know it was hydralic lifters FLeet.
I know the engine is your expertise area .. BUT ... if you get a lifter that doesn't expand immediately then thers's either a worn lifter or some blockage in the pressurised oil feed to the lifter. Either way it can end catastrihically Just a heads up. I presume that the valves don't breach the peak point of the pistons ?

    Thanks for the info, Matra.

It has had that tick for about 1 and 1/2 years so I'll just keep an eye on it for now. And I'll ask around and see what some Mopar guys say about it.

Just put new lifters in if you are worried about it.

Yeah, that should help. I will probably take care of that soon.

Yeah, there isn't styling like that anymore. Even the retro-'60s and '70s cars (Challenger, Camaro) have a bulky, blob-type look to them.

If I bought a '58 Plymouth Fury instead of a '66, I would probably have to start worrying about it being "out loose in the streets!"

A few youtube videos (not mine):

A 1966 Plymouth VIP commercial, a short commercial but has a few good shots of the car...

A 1966 Plymouth Fury III with 383. A good sample of the engine sound near the end...

A 1971 Plymouth Fury burnout. Nowhere near the year of mine but a good burnout!

    An update:

I drove over to a recycling place where you can weigh your car for $5.00.

Just for fun, I will give the answer in multiple choice.
One of the below is the correct figure... guess which one! I will give the answer later.
Remember, it has a big-block engine and air conditioning.

    Choice A- 4,186 lbs
    Choice B- 4,220 lbs
    Choice C- 4,330 lbs
    Choice D- 4,377 lbs

That is true. Weight does not really matter. I couldn't do much about it anyway!

I will reveal the answer later today!

I think it's C from some multiple choice tactics I've learned in the past:

    Choice A- 4,186 lbs
    Choice B- 4,220 lbs
    Choice C- 4,330 lbs
    Choice D- 4,377 lbs

I automatically narrowed it down to C and D because they both have 4,3xx in common. Next, I noticed B and C were similar in that the last digit was 0, but having ruled B out already it's got to be C. I'm 100% certain. Prove me wrong.

You are now all enlightened and amazed. You're welcome.
