I think it'll be lucky to just return profit TBH. Holden wouldve done much better selling the planned 50,000 G8s as a)they wouldve been higher profit private sales and b)the SWB models wouldve had a lower cost price. Even then, the G8 was more about keeping the assembly line moving than generating profit.

Don't get confused though - they're making money on the LWB car. And the export capacity was really already there thanks to tie ups with the Arab world.

It is a very small consolation prize for the Royal screw over they've received.

Well, ship them to (continental) Europe as Opel Commodores or something...

How much though? Are the cops really going to pay enough for them considering the cut throat deals they get with Ford for Crown Vics? As i said, G8 wouldve been tight on profit, this will be as much so if not tighter given its fleet intentions.

Not necessarily. VE from the outset needed significant US exports to get the business model right.

Not really a prize, more of plan B after G8 failed with Pontiac.

Statesmans and Caprices should not be confused with American large cars. These things handle pretty fine in standard trim and would be further enhanced for Police work one would imagine.

The brits don't buy a whole lot of them though - they're still very niche.

Back to FPV's point - the Profit margin is very much dependant on the Aussie Dollar Vs the US Dollar. the G8 wasn't that tight (they were, all things considered, priced similarly to what you would get in Australia) so I don't think this will be too much of a stretch. Remember what they cost to build a bigger model of they save in the fitout.

^ also being fleet spec they are all built the same, no need to cater for different options, which helps costs

Plus, they're American cop cars. you can probably skimp on the firewall and hazard reduction stuff - Cop cars are meant to explode in a crash aren't they?
