    NSX Prototype Caught

A heavily modified S2000 is caught testing on the Nurburgring.

It seems like it's a RWD car still, but it'll still probably come out with 4WD, which makes no sense whatsoever. I do like the V-10 though.

That's the NEW NSX? Highly doubt so.

It's an S2000 with an extended body, apparently with a mid-engine layout and sharing the same exhaust as the NSX.... I'm not sure why Honda would create this, but it sure as hell isn't a new NSX.

^it's a mule, like how ferrari used a stretched 328 to test the enzo engine.
canuck i thought they were discontinuing the S2000?
an audio clip of the engine would be nice...

Might be a replacement or possibly some special edition?

    Of the S2000? Unlikely.

This is a mule for the new NSX or the Advanced Sports Car Concept or whatever. The S2000 is next to dead if I hear right sales are slipping (I am not sure I have even ever seen one) and a replacement was talked about in this month's Road and Track as possibly being called an S800.

it sounds like this is the NSX and not an s2000 successor. honda's just giving us a tease. besides, those b pillars would be ridiculous in a front engined car

Yes, it's most likely a prototype. It's much easier to modify and test an existing platform than fully bang out one from scratch.

Yes, I agree too. AWD is too complicated.

    Right.

I do think the mule looks like crap, but it's still a bit better than what Acura has been giving us lately, the AASC concept for instance. The HSC was fine. They should have kept it that way and dropped the V-10 into that body. Then things wouldn't have to drag on for so long.

The S2000 CR is the special edition you're looking for.

Yes, I heard about that too. It'd be a shame if the S2000 went down market and catered to a less sporty group. It'd be a real waste. Honda needs a smaller hard core sports car for those who can't afford a new NSX!

That extended roof and those exhausts bother me.................

For the Enzo mule, it was a 348, not a 328

It painful to read the confusion at the torquereport site. One word people: Mule.

One thing though, even if the bulging hood is concealing a V10 the car isn't that much wider than a stock S2K. Could it really be housing a V10, or did Honda settle for a V8???

I hope the production car doesn't look like that...

Oh and by the way Honda seems to be copying Lexus when it comes to the exhaust arrangement.
