I am no expert, but I highly doubt that premium fuel would have anywhere near as large as a 50km increase on a tank of fuel.
What says the resident fuel buffs?
Matra?
afaik his car is supposed to run on premium (98 RON even, being a grey import) from the factory, so the state of tune could explain the difference
Andreas Preuninger, Manager of Porsche High Performance Cars: "Grandmas can use paddles. They aren't challenging."
The higher octane gives the same power for less throttle so that might come into it.
AFAIK the higher octane just increases the response and allows more compression which is where the extra power comes from.

I normally don't hit it too hard. My powerband doesn't start until around 3600rpm, until then, there's really nothing to work with that's any fun; so I normally ride the gear up to about 2500rpm then shift up to the next gear. Get about 36mpg in the "city" in which I live (it's not that big, but the stoplights still work the same); I took a 430 mile trip up to Pittsburgh a few months ago on less than a 12 gallon tank, it must have been something around 10 gallons that I used, because I remember doing the math upon filling up to return and it coming out to a little over 42mpg.
pondering things
47,18mpg (5,58l/100km) on the first two tanks in the Harley. Should improve as the engine loosens up.
Mustang's been averaging a lot better. 15,7mpg (14,98l/100km) over the last month, 14,7mpg (16l/100km) all-time.

An it harm none, do as ye will
Approximately 79% of statistics are made up.
The last two tanks in the Mini yielded 10,9l/100km (22mpg US/26mpg UK) and 9,1l/100km (26mpg US/31mpg UK) respectively.
I'm happy to have dropped below 10l/100km.

sometimes i ride the clutch( it thnik thats what its called when you put the clutch in and coast) when im going downhill dunno how much that helps my economy. i do it mostly because it makes the car quieter
"Kimi, can you improve on your [race] finish?"
"No. My Finnish is fine; I am from Finland. Do you have any water?"
no no no no no! never do that! Lessens your control of the car, increases wear on the clutch and the brakes, when going downhill you select a lower gear and use the engine to keep your speed steady. You would be failed on your driving test for that under 'serious driving fault'

Slip it into neutral man! Dont put the clutch in if you just want to coast!
The Datto will rage again...
Dad is getting 9.8L/100 km with the Cobalt, I'm getting 12.3L/100 km...
I blame 'sporty' driving
