There is no substitute: Echoes, from Pink Floyd's 1971 album, Meddle. Sadly, this album - and Animals - are often overlooked for the big three - Dark Side, WYWH, and The Wall.

Epic is a word that is thrown around a lot these days, but this song certainly is. It's mind melting. The jam section is tops. I cannot turn up these headphones loud enough. I think I may check out the live version from Live at Pompeii next.

+1, Kitdy. Early Floyd is the best Floyd, intensely creative. Syd Barrett was gone by 1968, but those first seven albums almost define "epic". My favorites are Atom Heart Mother, Meddle and Obscured By Clouds.

I've been on a horn driven world music/funk kick lately but today, took a trip back in time.
Realized that the source material for all the new acts ass-drop groove remains the Right Stuff:

And for something a little different, some psychedelic gogo circa 1966:

I'm not listening to anything (as in CD, radio or whatever) at the moment but I do have two Katy Perry songs going through my head. It is alternating between "Hot n Cold" and "I Kissed a Girl". I don't know why this is happening....

I was just listening to a mixture of Queen, Doobie Brothers, Gordon Lightfoot and Creedence Clearwater Revival. I am at home right now.

PS Freddie Mercury IS a total genius!

Not really. I don't mind those two songs, but I wouldn't go out of my way to listen to them and, offhand, I can't think of the names of any of Katy Perry's other songs. Usually the only time I hear anything of hers is when it comes over the radio or on TV or as background music in a pub. I don't have any of her CDs nor am I likely to buy any of them.

Damn!! Now I've got Hot n Cold going through my head again..........
