    Tape deck ipod thingy

Does anyone have one of those iPod players that you put in this fake cassette tape that then plugs in to the iPod's headphone jack?

I just bought one from a friend and she said just plug it in and play, but when i put the tape in it looks like it's playing but no sound comes out...?

Yeah first turn the volume up and make sure the thing is p[lugged into the iPod fully. If that doesnt work then all i can say is that my buddy had two of those before and both broke pretty quick on him, the wires broke or something, either way it was with the wiring

one of my friends had a tape deck adapter thingy that he used for his cd player and it worked with my iPod without a problem, so dont feel that you have to stick with stuff that they say is iPod only.

You know, I really hate you.

I've been using an iTrip for the past three or so months, and on that I turned the volume on my iPod all the way down, because it had no effect on the volume of the music, but saved battery power. So this morning when I was trying this out, I had the volume on the iPod all the way down, and kept turning the head unit volume up, to no luck.

But apparently this is controlled by the iPod volume.

    Thanks alot Canuck.

BTW, to anyone who has an iTrip, the cassette sound quality just blows that stuff away...WOW. This thing really makes that $150 I spent on new front door speakers worth it because now they make everything so clear...awesome.

I have one that works fine with my Creative Zen Mp3 player. It works best for me when the mp3 player is set to near full volume but not quite full volume.

I use an adapter that converts what's coming out of the iPod's headphone jack into an FM signal, which I then tune my car radio into. Much better than messing around with one of those crappy tape adapters.

Even better, if you have a single DIN sized head unit, swap it for one with an AUX IN port - then you get the best quality sound.

The stock head unit is decent for now, after my new alpine subwoofers and alpine amplifiers I'll be getting an Alpine CDA-9883 head unit that has an AUX-in plug and you plug it in under the cup holders and select the song through the Head-Unit and it charges while it plays, so it's totally no-show.

But for now and for $20 I figured this was a good solution until I get the head unit.

That's what an iTrip is/what I've been using. And while it's somewhat neater looking with no wires anywhere, now I can charge my iPod while it plays, and the sound quality is way better, and I can actually hear it. (I'm not sure how big Derby is, but Houston is about 6,000,000 and has tons of radio stations so I rarely get full signal on the i trip.)

my girlfriend just bought one today. she says if her Zen is at full volume then you can hear it but there is a major buzzing sounds. It seems a bit hit and miss. It either works well or it doesnt.
