    Junk GM: Chevelle Project

So I recently purchased a mulsanne blue 1972 Chevrolet Chevelle w/ Air conditioning. It's got a 350 cubic inch small block, 2bbl carb, TH350 3spd automatic transmission (on the column), posi rear. The tranny is blown in it, it only goes in reverse. It's a bench seat car, all original interior except for carpets (nasty 80's blue carpet). The car's been repainted factory color and it's quite obvious in a few spots.

    THE MASTER PLAN:

Transmission: Get it rebuilt, new torque converter, and a shift kit
Engine: 4bbl intake and carb, possible rebuild, replace blown a/c compressor
Interior: New carpets, front seat cover
Exterior: SS stripes (white), fix and blow in a few spots around the car, sand and buff entire car

Hopefully by the end of the summer I can sell it and get something nicer.

This is the only pic so far, more to come.

    1st update
I pulled the transmission and will be ordering the parts on monday to rebuild it.
The oil pressure sending unit leaks so everything from the motor back is covered in a combination of oil and dirt. The transmission was covered in about 1/2" of said oil mud. The removal definitely wasn't the highlight of my day. A can of engine degreaser and the pressure washer will make it look brand new again.

The carburetor needs to be rebuilt as the accelerator pump doesn't work anymore. I'm thinking about doing a 4bbl swap but that would eliminate any possibility of getting "good" gas mileage out of the car. I have to look into rebuild prices for the 2 bbl first.

The whole underside of the car is covered in the nasty oil mud and flaky crap and will be pressure washed to clean it up.

Unless it's an "automatic" ie a sequential gearbox

Oh yeah, I'd get one of those high end 4 pot or whatever carbs. Might make it sell faster, because people who buy muscle cars like those better.

You know what I think about your car Johnny. And unlike Adam, it's a favorable opinion Good luck with your project man.

There are also casual drivers who don't give a damn about the car being automatic or manual, as long as they can go from point A to point B. Not everyone is a car enthusiast. It doesn't mean that they can't drive or that they are pussies either. They just don't care.

Personally I prefer to drive manual in general, in particular for spirited driving (who doesn't), but when I'm just going to my friend's places where the speed limit is either 30 or 50 km/h, manual shifting gets very boring. 1-2-1-2-1-2-1, a zillion stop signs... I'm lazy, automatic ftw in this case.
