it does not have a turbo so its naturally aspired then. In order to get that much horsepower gain without a turbo, you would have to go about doing all the little things that might squeeze out a little juice. Port and polished head, full header back exhaust, chip tuning, higher octane, anything to get some more power.

It would be cheaper to squeeze a 3.5 litre engine in there.

First of all the car has the M52, which is 190hp stock. You can do upgrades like S52 M3 cams, chip, 540i HFM, air intake, exhaust, convert back to OBD1 with M50 intake mainfold/wiring. That right there would set you at M3 or more power level of those years (240hp+). It's decently common to see that work done in engine swaps into E30's 3-series...I have a friend who did all that in his `91 318is with that M52 and it runs very well. If you want even more power, look into forced induction. Those M52's can handle a decent amount of boost...turbo would be awesome but supercharger is more realistic with the kits available.

Why don't you join a bmw forum and ask them, and leave us alone.

if you really want an answer go to UnitedBimmer.com they're real helpful and nice.

without the engine swa, my friends 97 328is puts out about 260 with chip, CAI, s52 cams, UUC ystem U exhaust, manifold and OBD1

but for that price there, sell your 328 for 8 grand and instead of wasting money on the mods, just go buy an E36 M3. or better yet, an E30 M3
