i think it was a BRM 12 1/2 after that wreck, that's intense especially w/ the driver watching it from the track

Interesting shots. Hans Hermann is still with us, b.t.w. I am also intrigued by the seat? (tripod?) in the left corner of the picture. Was somebody supposed to sit there? A photographer or a marshall?

might be, but I also saw the extinghuisier in the second pic (bottom right), so in those days and ages, that might have been an overkill...

Those photos have always amazed... and yet to find an answer regarding the fireman's equipment ON the track. Herr Hermann thankfully is still with us and drives in vintage events.

I don't think it is on the track, if you look a the first he actually went through a hay barrier, so there must have been some sort of chicane.

It was on AVUS, so there was no chicane - it was a 180 turn.

    Of course

By the way, the behavior of those people inside the turn amazed me. It looks like they have seen a car rushing towards them in a similar way every day - just stood on its way and watched!

it is not amazing, I once stood next to my own car and a guy in SL came around the corner and lost it, went straight into my neighbours car which was parked behind mine. I just watched the sequence. Of course I should have moved out of the way, but I just did not.
