Granted that I don't have a ton of experience with turbocharged engines (mostly diesels, which are completely different or older engines) I thought it was the best turbo I've ever driven. But I could still detect a little lag and was curious why they hadn't used VVG, or VTG, whatever we're calling it now.
I'm guessing that going to a twin scroll single turbo was simpler and cheaper, and if they were able to get better performance out of it with these new tricks, then more power to them.

Ok, I don't know maybe there was some turbo lag, but then again all turbo engines have degree of turbo lag, big or small. Regardless, I can't see where the complaints could've possibly have come from. All I could think during the day I spent with is, crikey! this is superb, really fast and very smooth.
Especially if you think of what's popular in Europe, mostly small engines, the big bimmer twin turbo six has (almost) no turbo lag compared. However, perhaps in the US is different because you are used to big torquey engines.

For Ferrer - the high pressure fuel pumps be failin'.
Woo! A sign from God that you should use a NA engine in a BMW.
But mine's (unfortunately) a diesel four, not a petrol six.
And anyway if it hasn't failed in 83.500km...

Oh, despite everything I still think it's a brilliant car.
And anyway some of the greatest cars ever made haven't been exactly the most reliable cars in the world. I mean the entire italian car production...

They're not exactly exploding in firey destruction and there's a voluntary recall on now.. there might be a bit of a warm fart wafting over to the fan, but that's about it.
Life's too short to drive bad cars.
Except they have been denying the need for a recall for the past 2 or 3 years as far as I understood.
How about a wet fart? Should fit the situation.
