I'd get an RX-8.. I know they aren't a coupe, but they do tend to get lumped into the same category. Otherwise.. I'd be more likely to spend the moneh on an old Z, a 240 or the later 300ZX.

    Under $45,000?
I'd pick a restored '69 Cadillac Coupe de Ville. Proven reliability.

here is a pretty good list of the one's to choose from:

    lotus elise: 44.500
    G35 sport coupe: 34.000
    RX-8*: 33.000
    Mini cooper S: 22.000
    SLK350: (bare) 45.500
    350Z Track version: 34.700
    Boxter: (bare) 42.000
    R32: 30.600

mabey wait until the new SVT Cobra comes out, shouldnt get over 42.500

    * not a coupe, but i think it still counts

I'd take a C6. But since the price is $44.510 which doesn't include the german taxes the $45.000 won't be enough.
    In that case i'd go for a 350Z which is around 34.000 € = $44.200

It manages to be both aggressive and hideously ugly at the same time.

    I would take an RX-8.

If you want practicality and fuel consumption buy a sedan. Coupes should not be overly compromised by concerns such as these.
