Hockey does pretty well in the northern states but even at its best it cant compete with football at its worst even in the northern states. but either way, just look at the numbers...hockey is unpopular.

Because the NHL wants teams in economically profitable cities (i.e. highly populated, among other factors), not necessarily where there is a market for hockey. Nashville? Tampa? Phoenix? What the f***. Canada is where it's at. We love hockey. But the NHL doesn't give a damn, and it's a Canadian league.

    Play AFL, No pads,
First off, it'd be ridiculously unsafe with a puck that goes 160 km/h and having blades on your skates.
The other night, One of our girl Hockey players, Got smashed in the face with the stick, She was bleeding down her face, Looked like she might have broken a nose, 10min later she was back on.

A guy I knew played C grade rugby for our local team the Bungendore Mud Chooks - had his nose broken five times in one season

And three of those happened in training! (against his team mates)

My comment IF YOU READ IT was just pointing out the macho-sport-BS started your side of the pond

Usually the "derision" is because somebody posts some BS about how tough it is or heroic or manly or "world championship"

    SO "pfff" yourself
All we do is defend ourselves, but shouting 'Amerika rulez' is fun here and there. It does get annoying when everyone claims our sports suck due to use of pads. Then again, our athletes shit on your athletes.

    LOL.. Go the mighty Chooks!...
I sympathise with him, Had mine broken once, Feels great, Not so much pain, That's minimal, It's the pressure on the sinus it creates, that's the biggest bitch, Hard to breath and feels like a Minnie head ache all the time.
