    I just bought a Triumph Spitfire 1500 for $750.00...

While perusing craigslist, I found something I couldn't pass up.

A 1976 1500cc Spitfire in BRG with a straight body, bone stock for $750.00. California origin, rust free, been in storage for the past 20 years. And I am going to do a full restoration. If you guys want, I'll do step by step pictures for you as well

Anyways, I am wondering what your opinions would be, as far as modifications to the car. It is going to be registered DEQ-wise to a rural area, so I don't necessarily have to follow emissions laws. I was thinking of removing the catalytic converter, putting on K&N's, twin SU HS2's or maybe Webers, electronic ignition (not sure if I want to go through the mapping yet or not), new manifolds and a new exhaust. Any recommendations as far as the engine is concerned, given what I am considering doing? Other modifications to look into? This does have overdrive stock, as well as the 9:1 compression ratio due to it being a '76.

I have to do a 7 hour road trip this weekend to haul it back to my workshop. Can't wait It is quite dusty because it has been sitting. I imagine I am going to have do seals and brakes, and a general overhaul on it due to it having been sitting garaged for so long. Anyways, without further adieu, pictures... Enjoy

welcome, and keep us posted on the progress. Is the engine a runner?

It was running before it was parked in that garage in the 80's though

good, how did you acquire the knowledge to carry out such projects? You must remember Jay Leno's complaint from some years ago that real technical people who can deal with real cars are hardly being trained any more.

The Spitfire is definitely going to be a summer car... I live in Oregon, and my Spitfire will probably leak like a sieve

That is... Unless I can find one of these ... Fastback Spitfire anyone? I imagine it'd be a pain to take on and off though, and the added weight would be even more painful...

Possibly, but if you say that you are 16 you can't have had much spare time so far in absolute terms

okay well in regards to your engine work question, do you plan on staying with that engine? i've never driven a 4cylinder spitfire, but am very happy with the straight six in mine, could be something to consider.

For the stuck spark plug talk to your local Würth seller and get some Rost-Off or Rost-Off Ice. Will work wonders
