What do you feel about the Tata Nano

$2500, 4 doors, seats 4, 624 cc engine, one windshield wiper and cheapest of them all. What do you think?

I really don't want to be seen in one of those! If you hit a bird on the road, the birds survival chances are bigger than yours!

It should be here already, although they should have made a 2 seater version like a Smart but a lot cheaper.

I think its a good idea for INDIA but not really for anywhere else. It could be a success story. I'd have one over a gwiz anyday.

    Anything's better than Gwiz.

And didn't Tata's engineers engineer the car to be somewhat safe?

Its good for developing countries with a lot of poverty and cluttered cities (India, China) but I read a rumor it was headed for the US and no, please no.

If they do come to the U.S., I would think most of their use would be in company cars and such. I'm thinking they'd turn into stuff like the Geek Squad buggies and taxies.

If Smart can't do good in the US then Tata doesn't stand a chance. Cheaper or not.

Without these, the Nano would not even be considered for approval in Britain. Adding them would double its price in India, which is why they have been omitted.

Quick! Somone shove in a Hayabusa engine!

But yeah, this may be the Indian Model T for the 21st century.

thats right..maybe it makes sense only for those in India. But Tata has said that if it enters Europe, it will do so only after the Nano gets a 4 star EuroNCAP safety rating. A bigger engine is also on the cards. 1000 CC, 60+ hp, 600 kg, airbags+abs+4 star safety rating and $4,000 in a few years time..would do buy one then?

NO chance of it meeting NCAP and only being $4000 equivalent
Besides 4-star is now minimum and all new cars are hitting sold 5s and they're even starting to highlight differences within the band to seperate them.
In a couple of years the bar will be even higher.
