    Your Stereo System Speakers?

I am curious what stereo system speakers other members here have. (Receivers, too, if you want to.)

Both my speakers and receivers are from the early 1980s and both were given to me by my brothers.

As for the speakers, the are Radio Shack Optimus 50. I still have the box them came in. Bass reflex type, 12" woofer, 4" mid-range and 2.5" tweeter.
Frequency response is 50-20,000 Hz, 75 watts power handling capacity and 8 ohms impedance.

Receiver is a Kenwood. It has a loudness switch which comes in handy. Also has the common bass and treble controls. Both still work quite well. I had the woofers reconed about 4 years ago. Here are some photos of both...

Just got this, no complaints so far. The radio sounds great and while watching movies its just crazy. My windows rattle and shakes the room.

If I move out in the near future I'll probably spend a few thousand on a new system with BluRay, big screen, and all those goodies. That's all future though.

Looks good. I would be very satisfied with that system, too.

Well, I have at least one thing that is not from the '80s... the computer I am using now!

Looking through recent Radio Shack catalogs, I have noticed that the speakers have less of a range than the older ones did.

For instance, in the 1980 catalog, their "Mach One" speaker had a response of 20-25,000 Hz. In the 2000 catalog, the largest range in there was 50-20,000.

When I brought my woofers to be reconed the technician there said that Radio Shack speakers were better made in the '80s and earlier because there was less competition back then.

Most of the music I listen to is '50s and '60s; much of the music has a lot of bass so having speakers which could reproduce the bass was always a priority for me. And my current speakers do very well in that area.

I wouldn't buy Radio Shack branded speakers. Check out stuff from companies like Harmon Kardon and Klipsch, among others.

I didn't buy them, they were given to me. But back then some of their items were good.

If for some reason I were to buy new speakers, then I would look into the ones you listed, along with Infinity.

I have some little logitechs now, back in Perth I had a big old 70s quadrophonic system. It was great. One day I'll find some big old speakers and make CD shelves out of them.
