Did any of you see the first GTO concept?

I found the original concept about a month before I saw video of the actual production car. And then I almost slit my own wrist. Am I the only person appauled by this thing? Its a freakin grand-am with a slightly beefier powerplant. The original concept was much more agreeable. It kept in line with the wide dueal section grille. And lately I've found that company trade marks can really screw up a vehicle's design process. Like Dodge's charger concept. Because they ABSOULTELY MUST have that bloody quad grill they can't make a half decent looking car. I mean had they not called in shelby the viper would have flopped like you wouldn't believe. Oh and am I the only person slightly offended by their need to have Lambo's help on the original v-10? Just a thought.

The first GTOs were loaded yesterday here in Adelaide. Below is a bit from the Holden website.

"Holden today loaded the first shipment of Pontiac GTO coupes, based on the Holden Monaro, for sale in the United States later this year.

The 5.7-litre, V8-powered performance coupes were loaded to depart tonight for the Port of Benicia, California.

The vehicles were the first of 5400 to be delivered to the United States in 2003 and 18,000 coupes in a full year of production.

The event coincided with confirmation that another GM division, Vauxhall, will start importing the Monaro in the United Kingdom from March next year.

GM Europe Vice President and Vauxhall Chairman and Managing Director, Kevin Wale, confirmed the program for 300 V8 Monaros a year prepared as the Vauxhall Monaro, on sale in the second quarter of 2004."

i like the origonal GTO concept much much more than the new production model. the new model is too sedate in it's styling. maybe they'll be better looking in person.

that seems to be the opinion that the Americans have of it. Maybe GM should have stuck with the Aussie look or one of the HSV styles.
