Geneva 2012: Spectacular one-off Lambo, new Bentley SUV and brutal Brabus ...

Although we still have to wait a few hours before the main press day of this year's Geneva Motor Show kicks off, the Volkswagen Audi Group have already released the full details of their exhibits. The absolute star is the Lamborghini Aventador J. Based on the underpinnings of the production car launched exactly a year ago, this one-off harks back at Lamborghinis of old both in its 'Jota' nomenclature and no-compromise styling. Simply put, to create the Aventador J, Lamborghini's engineers cut off the roof and and removed such luxuries as a windshield and air conditioning. The Italian manufacturer is adamant that the car is strictly one-off and that it will be handed to a customer after the show, so the coming fortnight might be the only time in quite a while that the 'J' is seen in public. Sister company Bentley have taken a step in the opposite direction with the introduction of the EXP 9 F. As the name suggests, this is strictly speaking an experimental machine but we have little doubt that this is definitive proof that the British manufacturer is expanding into the SUV market. It does not take a keen eye to see that the W12-engined machine is based on a Cayenne. Volkswagen themselves will show a second variant of the Cross Coupe, which was first seen in Tokyo late last year. This version uses a hybrid system that consists of two electric motors and a TDI diesel engine. Whether the Cross Coupe will enter production in this form remains to be seen but the potent and green drivetrain will certainly make its way into future models.
Mercedes-Benz specialists Brabus have worked their magic on the latest 'Black Series' model from the German manufacturer and created the Bullit 800 Coupe. What Brabus have done is shoehorn their 800 hp twin turbo V12 in the wide-body C-Class Coupe body. Smaller than earlier 'Bullit' models, the 800 Coupe could very well be one of the quickest Brabus cars ever.
Our reporters will, of course, be on the floor first thing tomorrow morning and as you have come accustomed to, will produce a detailed report with all the highlights (good and bad) from this year's Geneva International Motor Show.

The world needs more cars like that Aventador. It works in a super-expensive supercar kind of way, many Aventadors probably never see rain as it is!
Shame it seems like only Lamborghini (and some small volume manufacturers) can pull it off, and only in a one-off car :\

Don't get me wrong, the Lambo is gorgeous, but I am confused what it is for. This looks like it's been designed to be a track-day car but track-day people don't buy Lamborghinis and Lamborghini people don't do track days. All Lamborghini drivers ever really do is go cruising down the avenue in Dubai.

But then again, I guess it doesn't rain there anyway.

I'm surprised no one is wailing on Bentley for making a SUV. I think it's worse than Porsche making a SUV.

It looks incredibly tacky and it looks exactly like a Range Rover with Bentley badges, and not in a good way either.

Is it based off of the Q7?

Not all of them I guess.. this is a one off that someone commissioned from Lambo, so clearly someone wants it.

It really is, though. And probably the only car from Geneva for which I would say that (not to sound ungrateful for the pics, though ).

As for the Bentley SUV thing, yeah it sucks but who didn't see it coming? There are way too many people who would say, "I want an SUV but I want it to say 'Bentley' on it!" And unfortunately, those are the people with all the money and for whom Bentley have to design their cars.

Love the Lambo so much. Bentley SUV not a fan. If Bentley really wanted to make a SUV they could have tryed to make it look a bit better.

perhaps the Bentley goes the Lagonda way,...into the bin. Elsewhere I read that Bentley will redesign the car as they were greatly disappointed by the negative comments received from virtually everybody.
