New 205 Rally build -Finally started :D

Right as some of you may know i used to be around this place all the time but dont really have alot of time to get on here very often now, Thought i may as well keep people updated on the rallying progress... which this year has been very limited :P. i havent driven in any rallies this year as been saving to build up the new car over summer so just donea few events as a navigator. Anyway ive got myself a 205 Gti a few months back and started the stipping job of it this week finally. Engines out, interiors mostly gone now and its ready for the process to start.

Next on the agenda is to grind of all the crap from inside and outside, seam weld everywhere that needs it and get the cage ordered(pic of cage im putting in attached)

ill try keep it updated throughout as it should be abit of a beast when its finished

cheers lads, yeah im hoping its gonna be pretty quick.

Think im going for the mi16/GTi-6 engine, but keeping the 1.6gti box on it as gearing is better for what i want, tran x plate diff, proper cams and a set of twin 48 webbers me thinks. should be gettin about 200bhp from that

also gonna run it on a 309gti rear beam wtih 306 arms. fromts gonna be on 309 gti arms and shafts as they give a 2" wider track and change the camber by about a degree or two

only thing im not sure on at the moment is a bit cosmetic lol, its in sorrento green which was a special edition one but im thinking of having it a different colour something like Focus ST orange or lime green hehe

How big is the Mi16 motor? A 2 litre?

Cheers, yeah its a 1.9 comes out of either a bx or a 405. the one from the bx runs a different throttle body though so gives it a bit more low end torque.

ill try to keep as updated as poss but its gonna be a while not before any major alteration... gf wants to go on holiday and im currently.... between jobs haha

Lovely, but did you need to chop up a perfectly good GTi for this project? Surely any 205 would have done the trick for what you had in mind.

....everytime you kill a GTi...god kills something else in retalliation...probably

as far as the dimma kit goes, its not getting one at the momentm if it gets anything it would get one of the guttman ones, its basicaly the same as the dimma one but not quite as wide

Hey guys, not much to update you on at the moment, other than that plans have changed, im putting a different cage in it now TO THIS ONE its just going through the final stages of development before it can go into production.

Engine wise its getting a 1.9 gti engine in it now but im rebuilding it properly with some je pistons, rods etc getting the head properly machined and made up running it on bike carbs prob r6 ones with some piper 285 cams and vernier pulleys.

Just had the first quote through for the first bit of work - which was scary as expected - getting the shell seam welded, buying the cage, fitting seat rails, fitting cage, getting under bonnet and inside sprayed white turreting the rear end and putting it on mk2 escort soilovers is gonna cost about 2k hopefully after that though i should be able to do the mechanical work myself, just dont fancy doing the strengthening /welding myself

This is the sort of look im going for at the front end width wise

IS the cage being welded in too ?
If yes, then with all the seam welding and I presume bulkheads being closed off then that's not bad for the fab costs.
And it's best getting a pro to do it, coz with modern steels it's a lot harder than us amateurs can manage

hey pete, yeah cage is getting fully welded in, its a close friend that owns a bodyshop thats doing all the work so luckilly get it a bit cheaper, another thing thats bringing the costs dwn though is im giving him the shell ready to start welding and painting straight away as ive stripped it right down and will be scotching it all up ready . If i were more confident myself id of done it as im trying to do as much of it as posible.
