Visca Catalunya!
Was racing with Western countries allowed behind the Curtain?

Don't forget the MZ motorcycles that were very competitive.
Buying a car and not driving it is like buying a meal and not eating it.

Does anyone have info about it? I tried searching, but nothing came up.

If you ever heard of Antonov (or An) aircraft factory in Kiev, that is where this car was born. It was not an 'official' bureau project, though - they were designed by Yuri Zemtsov, factory employee. There were three of Kiev sportscars built - two coupes with Moskvich 407 engines (forced up to circa 70+hp) and one roadster with GAZ 21 unit (90hp). In Russian sources it is known as Kiev Sport, although this name was most probably unofficial and given post factum. The coupes have had Gullwing doors, by the way, the bodies were made of fiberglass.
There is a picture of the Volga engined roadster here.
Later one of the men behind the project, Anatoly Argentov (who has also raced one of them) has designed a number of racing formulae, also called Kiev. According to what I've found there were three of them - Kiev 1 with a Moskvich 407 engine in the front, Kiev 2 with Wartburg 312 in the rear and Kiev 3 with GAZ 21 plant also in the rear. Argentov raced all the three cars himself.
Racing in the West was not allowed, I believe due to general difficulties with going abroad. There was a number of events against western drivers, though - in 1961 and 1962 two International races for CAMK (central automotive and motorcycle club) USSR prize were held. It should be mentioned though that Soviet cars were uncompetitive against Coopers and Jaguars brought from Europe. Also there was a USSR vs Italy match at Monza in 1965, won by Italians (http://formula2.net/F365_E67.htm).
P.S. Ferrer, have you found the picture of Kiev in this resolution in the web?
